We made it to Anacortes, WA, the beginning of our trip. We arrived on a shuttle bus from Seattle, picked up our bikes from Skagit Cycles, and headed to Washington Park to camp.
They have cyclist-only campgrounds, but we messed up and got set up in a regular site, which is ten dollars more. It’s pretty at least, and we got to see a fawn as we headed down to the Pacific Ocean for the beginning-of-the-ride ceremonial wheel dip.
Before taking the shuttle bus to Anacortes, we spent two nights in Seattle, where we enjoyed amazing vegan food at Sutra, biked around town on our AirBnB host’s loaner bikes, viewed sea otters at the aquarium, and generally enjoyed a mini vacation before the physical work of riding begins. We have one more distraction: we’re sea kayaking tomorrow around Anacortes, where there may be orca whales! Photos to follow.
